Atilla Barutcu
Bülent Ecevit University 
 
He was born in Antakya in 1988. He graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Sociology and completed a Minor in European Studies. He obtained his master’s degree from the Department of Women’s Studies at Ankara University in 2013 with the thesis titled “Physical and Social Phases of Construction of Masculinity in Turkey”. He conducted PhD research between 2013-2019 in the same department. With his short film titled “The Blobfish”, which he co-directed, co-wrote and played a part in, he was awarded second place in “Women’s Voices Now Film Festival” in the USA, and qualified for competition in “International Encounters of Short Films” and “La Peniche Cinema” in France. He has several articles and book chapters related to masculinities and performativity. He is also one of the editors of a book titled “Yüz Karası Değil Kömür Karası: Zonguldak” (İletişim Yayınları, 2017). He has been working as a research assistant at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Department of Sociology since 2014. His research interests include critical studies on men and masculinities, fatherhood, queer theory, performance studies and city and place. He is also interested in writing short stories and has a storybook titled “Damla Balığını Anlamak” (23 Yayınları, 2014).
 
 
Beril Türkoğlu

She was born in Izmir in 1987 and graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU) after completing her primary and secondary school in Izmir. She had her master degree with the thesis titled “VIOLENCE AS A WAY OF RECONSTRUCTING MANHOOD: THE ROLE OF THREATENED MANHOOD AND MASCULINE IDEOLOGY ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN” in METU Social Psychology in 2013. She won the first prize in Sabancı University Dicle Koğacıoğlu Article Award in December 2012 before her master’s degree with the article “Manhood on the fault line: Examining manhood under the frame of working and unemployment.” Her fields of interests are masculinity, violence, discrimination, prejudice, and gender. She is still in METU Social Psychology doctoral programme and work in Psychology department as a research assistant.
 
 
Çimen Günay-Erkol
Özyeğin University
 
Çimen Günay-Erkol graduated from METU Department of Mining Engineering, but never worked as an engineer except during her summer internships. She obtained her master's degree from Department of Turkish Literature at Bilkent University in 2001, upon completing a dissertation on socialist realist writer Suat Derviş. Between 2002-2008 she conducted PhD research in the Netherlands at Leiden University's Department of Literary Studies, and earned her PhD degree from Leiden University with a thesis on post-coup novels of 1970s, the so-called March 12 Novels. Since 2008, she is assistant professor of Turkish Literature at Özyeğin University in Istanbul and since 2009 she is the mother of Ali Liber. Her fields of interest include gender and masculinity studies, disability studies, biography, and topics such as testimony in coup periods and fictionalization of history. 
 
 
 
Hasan Kürşat Akçan

Aslen Ankaralıdır. Doğma büyüme DTCF’lidir. 2005 yılında lisans öğrencisi olarak girdiği Ankara Üniversitesi Sosyoloji Bölümü’nden 2020 yılında doktora derecesi almıştır. 2011 - 2019 yılları arasında araştırma görevlisi olarak çalışmış aynı zamanda farklı ulusal ve uluslararası projelerde araştırmacı olarak yer almıştır. Sosyoloji Derneği yönetim kurulu ve Eleştirel Erkeklik İncelemeleri İnisiyatifi üyesidir. Cinsiyet Eşitliği İzleme Derneği'nin yürüttüğü CEİDİzler isimli AB projesinde koordinatör olarak çalışmaktadır. AB projesinde  Sosyal hareketlilik ve sınıf konularındaki akademik çalışmalarına ek olarak toplumsal cinsiyet, erkeklik ve dijitalleşme konularına ilgi duymaktadır.

 
 
Gülden Sayılan

Gülden Sayılan was born in Edirne in 1987, where she also completed her primary and secondary education. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the Psychology Department at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2010. She graduated with a M.Sc. in Social Psychology from METU Psychology Department in 2013. In her M.Sc. thesis titled as “Conscientious Objections in Turkey: A Study of Social Representations”, she examined the representations of conscientious objection and objectors in contemporary Turkey as well as how these representations are related to the ideologies of militarism, nationalism, patriotism, and hegemonic masculinity. She obtained her PhD degree from the same department with the dissertation titled “Worldviews and Ideological Orientation: An Integration of Polarity Theory, Dual Process Model, and Moral Foundations Theory. Currently, she is working as a research assistant at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Department of Psyxhology.. Her research interests include social psychology of gender, prejudice and discrimination against sexual minorities, masculinity, worldviews and political ideology.

 
Naz Hıdır

Born in Izmir in 1990. Graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Literature Sociology Department in 2012. Studying master's degree in both the Department of Sociology and the Department of Women Studies of Ankara University since 2012. Working as part time student assistant at Ankara University Women's Studies Center (KASAUM). Involves in gender-based projects. Participated in Gender Studies Students Congree’s organisation committee. Studying on masculinity for master thesis under supervision of  Professor Doctor Serpil Sancar. 
 
 
Nurseli Yeşim Sünbüloğlu

Nurseli Yeşim Sünbüloğlu graduated with an M.A. in Gender Studies from Central European University (Hungary) in June 2008. In her M.A. thesis, entitled Crises’ of Male Citizen in Aganta, Burina, Burinata (1945), she analysed the construction and reproduction of male identities in Turkey in the period of 1940-1950 through a literary analysis. Since October 2009, she has been studying in the PhD Programme in Sociology at the University of Sussex (UK). Her research deals with experiences of disabled veterans and their families in the context of rehabilitation, militarism, body politics and masculinity in Turkey. She has presented conference papers on literary and media representations of disabled veterans in Turkey and has authored book chapters entitled “Beyaz Bereler, ‘Karadeniz Güzellemesi’, ‘Av Hatırası’: Hrant Dink Cinayeti Sonrasında Ortaya Çıkan Milliyetçi Tepkiler, Hegemonik Erkeklik ve Medya” (Medya, Milliyetçilik, Şiddet, 2009, Su Yayınları), “Ulusun Umudu ve Felaketi Erkekler: Milliyetçi Kadın Yazarların Romanlarında Erkeklik Kurguları (1918-1951)” (Türk Sağı ve İmgelem, 2012, İletişim Yayınları) and “Nationalist Reactions and Masculinity Following Hrant Dink’s Assassination: Reconfigurations of Nation-States and Implications for the Processes of Transnationalisation” (Rethinking Transnational Men: Beyond, Between and Within Nations, 2013, Routledge). She also edited a book entitled Erkek Millet, Asker Millet: Militarizm, Milliyetçilik, Erkeklik(ler) [Militarism, Nationalism and Masculinities in Turkey] 2013, İletişim Yayınları).      
 
 
Özlem Duva

Özlem Duva is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Dokuz Eylul University. She was educated at Çukurova University and received BS in Philosophy in 1996. She received MA degree from Cumhuriyet University (2001) and Phd from Ege University (2010) in philosophy. She attended Çukurova University, Mersin University, Cumhuriyet University, Ege University, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Dokuz Eylul University as a student, researcher and Assoc. Professor. Her research interests are Philosophical Anthropology, Kant, Political Philosophy(ancient and modern) and Masculinity and Philosophy.
 
 
Selin Akyüz

Selin Akyüz obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University and her Master’s degree from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Hacettepe University. She completed her doctoral studies in 2012 in the Department of Political Science at Bilkent University. In her dissertation she developed a typology of political manhood in Turkey and discussed the construction of masculinities in Turkish politics with a specific focus on political parties. During her doctoral studies, Akyüz got a research fellowship from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and completed her research at University of Oslo, Centre for Gender Studies as a visiting researcher. She also worked in research projects on gender, democratization, local politics and human rights. Her major research interests are critical studies on men and masculinities, gender studies, Turkish politics, migration and contemporary social theory. She worked as an Assistant Professor at Zirve University between 2012-2014. Akyüz is currently conducting her post-doctoral research on gendered perceptions of migration at University of Oxford, International Gender Studies Centre at Lady Margaret Hall.
 
 
Şahinde  Yavuz

Şahinde Yavuz was born in Eskişehir. After completing her primary and secondary education in Eskişehir, she graduated from the Public Relations and Advertisement Department of Ankara University’s Faculty of Communication. She acquired her master’s degree in 1996 and her doctoral degree in 2004 from Ankara University’s Institute of Social Science. Between 1998 and 2005, Yavuz worked as a research assistant at Gazi University’s Faculty of Communications. In 2006. She started working as an Assistant Professor at Karadeniz Technical University’s Faculty of Communication and acquired her associate professorship in 2010. Yavuz was at the head of the Public Relations and Advertisement Department between 2006 and 2013. Her interests of research are fashion, social consumption, advertising, gender relations and masculinity.
 
 
Şenol Topcu

1981 Ordu/Fatsa doğumlu.  İlk ve orta öğrenimini Fatsa’da tamamladı. 2007 yılında Anadolu Üniversitesi, Kamu Yönetimi Bölümü’nden mezun oldu. 2003-2004 yıllarında 4 sayı Yarabandı Edebiyat Sanat Dergisi’ni yayınladı. 2004-2007 yıllarında ÇOMÜ  Kültür ve Edebiyat Topluluğu tarafından yayınlanan Düş(v)eyaz Edebiyat ve Sanat Dergisi’nin yayın yönetmenliğini üstlendi. 2012 yılında Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü'nde yüksek lisansını “1980 Sonrası Türk Öyküsünde Erkek ve Erkeklik” isimli tezle tamamladı. Eleştirel Erkeklik İncelemeleri İnisiyatifi ve Masculinities Journal’ın kurucu ekibinde yer aldı. Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi’nde Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı doktora programında doktorasına devam etmektedir.
